Women Health Preventing Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is a life threatening disease and is caused by a number of factors including dietary habits and genes. There are a few preventive measures that can be induced in daily life to reduce the risk of breast cancer.

The chief change to be employed in order to avoid this deadly disease is healthy eating habits. Studies reveal that certain fats have been proven to increase estrogen levels which in turn are responsible for increased risks of breast cancer. Consume foods that are rich in Mono-saturated fats such as olives and canola and try to avoid foods containing high densities of poly-saturated fats. This food group includes margarine and deep fried products and snacks.

We are all attentive to the importance of fiber rich foods in our life. Not only do they make us feel fuller but reduce the sudden cravings that make us consume loads of products that are rich in processed sugars, such as donuts and cakes etc. Now, studies reveal that fiber may also be helpful in binding up excess estrogen and carrying it away through the body’s intestinal system. For this reason, bulking up on food products that are highly rich in fiber is recommended. Beans, brown rice, whole grain breads and green leafy vegetables are primary sources of good fiber.

Many researches indicate that the increased consumption of additives in our diet may be the leading cause of fast-spreading breast cancer. While shopping, be alive to these minor issues and purchase products that are hormone-free. Specially when buying meat and poultry items; settle for nothing but the freshest items available and wash your food products with plenty of flowing water to get rid of any pesticides and chemical residues.

Exercise also plays an important role in reducing the risks of breast cancer by cutting on excess estrogen production and reducing fat. Studies reveal that women who exercise at least four times a week reduce their risks of breast cancer by almost 37% as compared to those who didn’t.

While bathing do a self check and look for any discolorations or lumps on your breasts. If found, consult a specialist immediately. Unlike the common belief, not every mass on the breast is cancerous. There may be un-cancerous cysts that usually arise in women. Hence a biopsy for further investigation and thorough diagnosis is necessary.

A common belief regarding breast cancer treatment is about mammograms. Most women avoid these for the fear that it may be painful. The truth however is quite the opposite as the procedure is nowhere painful and only exposes the breast to radiations for a very small amount of time.

Moreover, there are speculations concerning birth-control pills and their tendencies to cause cancer. Research shows that these pills have been specifically designed to contain a low dose of hormones and hence are in no way related to breast cancer. However, excess usage of high-dosed pills may increase the risk and therefore moderation and proper usage of the drug is necessary.
